– These words were sweet music to my tired soul this morning. Katie Hancock, you’re a delight. I love riding to school with you every morning, and I love that you offered to drive AND go to Dunkin’ on this raining, I-need-gas, I-need-to-finish-a-paper-while-we-drive,...
Olivia: Listen, if you thought "this isn't wise or appropriate", that's when you know you're having fun.
(Laughter ensues)
Sarah: Olivia, you took my place. Katie used to think I was funny...

– (brief biography)
There are some days when I think I am so, so thankful that I won’t have to do that again. Like when I took my last test of college a few weeks ago, or when I run to the bus in the rain, or things like that. But, more often than not, I’ve found myself thinking I’m going to miss this. Today is one of those days.
No, I’m not going to miss getting up at six on my day off from...
Student: Miss Gamble, are you married?
Me (laughingly): Nope...
Student: Are you engaged?
Me: Nope...
Student: Are you closed to being engaged?
Me: No again...
Student: Are you in a serious relationship?
Me: Are you really asking this?
Student: I guess that's a no. Have you gone on a date recently? I mean, you're old.
Me: Yes, actually.
Student: Good. I was worried.
(Overheard in Hardin)
- “I was trying to see what my makeup would look like if I was a circus performer.”
- “I’m driving. These girls that I don’t know start waving at me. How awkward. I approach the stop sign. I turn left. {Demonstrates turning the wheel.} I’m driving down Agriculture. Stop sign. I stop. I go. As I’m getting up speed, I hear this ‘whoooooosh’. I...
So I’m willing to admit that I’m a little moderately OCD, self-diagnosed of course. I like for things to be in order, in neat stacks, and clutter-free. I like for my clothes to be arranged according to both sleeve length and color. I always iron my sheets (and occasionally iron my jeans). T-shirts are organized based on event/type, sleeve length, and color. I prefer odd numbers. While...

The past week has convinced me all the more that wit begins its development in middle school. Some of my students are, hands down, hilarious. One of my boys reminds me of Jonathan Taylor Thomas on Home Improvement. (If only he was also the voice of Simba…) There are moments when all I want to do is laugh hysterically. But, alas, that’s usually not an option. Unless I’m grading...

On my little drive to school each morning, I pass through the town of Colbert. And, obviously (said Antoine Dodson style), every time I see the word “Colbert”, I think of this video… It’s one of my favorite things ever, courtesy of Stephen Colbert. While there’s a bit of language in this video, it’s seven minutes of hilarity. Enjoy.
Goodnight Moon
Roommate: Almost bedtime, Miss Gamble?
Me: In the PJs, all aloed up (game day sunburns are a double doozie when we lose), bag packed, clothes picked out, and name tag attached. Yep.
Roommate: Really? Or are you being sarcastic..... sarcasm past 8 pm makes me wonder if this is Katie or sleep-texting Katie. Tricky. Also, I'm hungry. Wanna make me some falfel?
Me: I'm awake. I'm serious. And it's falafel.
I did it. After a semester out of the classroom, I was stressing about being thrown back into the world of middle school. With a new teacher and school, and sixty new students, I had no idea what to expect. But let me say this: it was incredible. Though I’m not the biggest fan of waking before the sun, the next thirty-three mornings will be delightful knowing what’s waiting for me. I...

parttimedomestic asked: Why can't I comment on a post? And can I have some of this Asiago Cheese Bread on Saturday? :)
Reasons I Love Wednesdays
Early Mornings… I have to get up early to make that sourdough bread, but I’m certainly okay with that! It gives me some time to enjoy on the back porch with coffee and some good music and that hammock that’s stealing too much of my time.
Cohort Classes… There are fifty-six girls and three boys at UGA right now that understand how crazy life will be come Monday....
back porch. hammock. favorite quilt. bible. journal. birds chirping. red coat...
Dear Autumn,
Welcome home. Please stay. Forever.
Signs that fall is so so close:
Sarah and I delighted in breaking out pumpkin and apple flavored soaps for Hardin today.
My PE class was outside. Though I did add to the freckles and was a bit warm, the crunch of some leaves under my feet was glorious.
Mornings spent on Hardin’s back porch in the hammock…. delightful.

So, after a week of giving Micah some hints, the night of surprise finally came… Here were some of her hints. See if you can guess what we did!
Stumped? Micah was. She thought that maybe it was postponed until November and that perhaps we were going to eat something Italian. She said that she knew I loved her, but was curious about the little black hole. And, as for the laundry detergent...
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
I’ll spare you this week’s sleepwalking/talking stories… However, one night I sat up in bed and rather enthusiastically announced to my roommate “I have a big surprise for you!”. Sorry, Sarah, I don’t really have a surprise for you. Fake out. My apologies. Why are surprises on my mind, though?
Well, this Friday night I’ll be reunited with my pal Micah....
It’s Saturday in Athens. You know what that means. Ladies and Gentlemen: it’s time to tee it up between the hedges. Am I the world’s biggest football fan? Far from it. However, there is a little delight in my soul when I see students, parents, wee ones, and old folks alike sporting their red and black. Driving down Milledge just a moment ago was wonderful… I realized that...
Bread Alone
So, I have some of this sitting in my fridge right now.
What is it? Oh, just something I’ve been looking forward to since the moment I knew it was coming my way. It’s sourdough bread starter…. the key to my future baking adventures. It will make delicious savory loaves, sweet stuff like cinnamon rolls, rolls, and more. I’m so excited! However, it has to rest until...
